The adult male Black Scoter has entirely black plumage and a bright orange patch at the base of his bill. The immature male similar is to female but has yellow patch at base of bill. The female has a dark crown and the rear of her head contrasts with her paler face. She has very dark plumage. The Immature females are somewhat paler. This duck feeds on mollusks, crustaceans, aquatic plants.
