"...so full of life. Rendering that invites you to reach out and stroke the delicate softness of their plumage. Or fantasize about centering them in the crosshairs." |

| ~ Washington Post on Dee Dee Murry's Federal Duck entry 2000 | |
|
My entry of Mottled Ducks for the 2000 Federal Duck Stamp Contest, made the final cut, landing in the 5th place spot out of 243 entries. Original is now for sale. The Mottled Duck has been considered to be a subspecies of the Mallard, but is currently listed as a separate species. It
is very similar to the female Mallard and American Black Duck. The Mottled
Duck differs form the female Mallard by darker plumage and a speculum
with a black border (the Mallard's has a white border). The feet are orange,
and the bill is olive-yellowish.
